1st Annual Back 2 School Festival

We were greatly blessed with nice weather, allowing the entire event to be held outside. Several families that have never attended Joy came to the festival.

The Jupiter Jump, shaped like Noah’s Ark, was a big hit for both kids and adults.

Our talented face painter created a multitude of butterflies, hearts, puppies, and kittens.

Families munched on popcorn while meeting new people and learning about Joy.

Most importantly, many new school supplies were gathered for students in need.

THANK YOU to all of the wonderful volunteers that made this day a success and to the generous donors that made this a better school year for a plethora of students.

VBS 2009

The theme of this year's VBS was "Gadget's Garage...where Jesus makes all things new!"
Our VBS coordinator, Lisa, did a beautiful job of decorating the church.
The colored carpet provided a place for the kids to sit together
during intro, music, Bible story, and closing.
Gizmo the Robot appeared in the opening and closing skits each night;
this blowup robot was a constant presence during the week.
Each night a new Bible verse accompanied the different Bible story and theme.

VBS ~ Music

Every night, the kids and adults learned new songs to correlate with the theme.
They focused on learning the words and signs to two songs,
which they joyfully engaged in every night.
After a week of singing at VBS,
the children sang in front of the congregation the following Sunday.

VBS ~ Bible Stories

At the heart of VBS is the nightly Bible lessons.
Each lesson was interactive with the children.
Below, they are acting like the plants from the parable of the seeds.
Props provided entertainment for the kids.

VBS ~ Games

We were blessed with beautiful weather, and every night the kids went outside for games.
Several teens eagerly volunteered to help with games, and had as much (if not more) fun.
Given the summer heat, water games were welcomed by the children, and it didn't take long for them to dry off in the sun.

VBS ~ Crafts

Always a VBS favorite, crafts allow creative learning of Bible principles.
This year, crafts included painting a mold of the world (above), making a sand picture, creating a mini-robot, decorating a mask, and weaving on a heart.
Even Pastor enjoyed the crafts.

VBS ~ Snack

After all of the hard work during Bible stories, music, and games, the kids were ready to eat!
Our kids enjoyed their snack break with food related to the Bible lesson.
The picture below shows a child eating the world after studying the story of creation.
